Love and Death in Paris '97 by Eric Hamilton Book Review
Daniel Plain moves from Seattle to Paris to pursue his dream of writing. He is a 33 year old widower who decides to follow his dream. He arrives and meets H.B. Baxter an investigative reporter at the Canadian Press News Agency. Along the way, he encounters scrupulous characters that arouse his curiousity. Baxter is a writer, and they start writing together.
Daniel meets a lot of interesting characters throughout the book. Baxter works with Trevor O'Conner, a brusque and cynical grump. He encounters Natalie, and a whirlwind of lust filled sexual encounters with her that leaves him feeling both slightly ashamed and blissfully sated. He investigates a series of mysterious events surrounding Princess Diana's death. As a result, he finds himself in danger.
This story is full of mystery and suspense. It is obvious that Mr. Hamilton put a lot of research into the novel, as evidenced by the detail of the locations (Notre Dame, Hemingway's home) and landscapes described therein.
Love and Death in Paris '97 is a nice paced novel that is easy to read with well developed characters. I found it very enjoyable and learned things about Princess Diana that I did not previously know. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves mystery, suspense and little bit of history.
