Antimicrobial 6-setting Rain Shower Head By AquaDance® With Microban®
As a mother, retired nurse and slightly OCD germaphobe, I am obsessed with antibacterial and antimicrobial products. Frequent handwashing and coughing/sneezing into elbows side, I am always looking at new products that come onto the market in the battle against germs. In this article, I am focusing on the antimicrobial showerhead that I recently purchased.
Bacteria
If you took health class in school, had Infection Control training for work, or even watched the news, then you know that germs are everywhere! We know how disgusting shopping cart handles, door knobs and other commonly touched surfaces are. Bacteria is present on our skin, and is easily spread by contact as well as airborne methods such as coughing and sneezing.
Where Bacteria Thrives
One area I never even thought about being a germ harborer is my shower head. Once I read about it however, it made perfect sense. While we frequently clean our showers, toilets and sinks... who thinks about shower heads? Showers are damp, warm and humid. This makes shower heads a perfect location for germs to multiply. As they proliferate, a nasty slime known as biofluid forms.
According to CONSUMER REPORTS: "Recent study points to shower heads as bacterial breeding ground. When a shower is on, pathogens accompany the water droplets that become suspended in the air ...these droplets are easily inhaled deeply into the lungs."
What Can You Do?
There is no way to eradicate bacteria. Some forms are beneficial and present within our bodies and on our skin at all times. Since we cannot eliminate it, the only thing that we can do is mount a defense against overgrowth.
Germs easily cling to plastic, so a metal or antimicrobial shower head is a better option to reduce exposure. Infusing antimicrobial applications into your bath products such as shower heads can help to slow product deterioration, limit stains and fight against odor-causing microbes.
I purchased Microban's Antimicrobial 6-setting Rain Shower Head. It features multiple water settings, including a pause feature to conserve water while shampooing/lathering up. It comes with the plumbing tape needed to seal it on your existing shower pipe. It installed in jut a couple of minutes.
