4 Fun Summer Activities for Kids

Tired of hearing your children whine all summer long about how bored they are? Try these tried and true, simple and inexpensive activities to keep them occupied!

1. Sidewalk Chalk

Everybody loves sidewalk chalk! You can make a hopscotch game, tic-tac-toe board,or draw anything that you can imagine! You can purchase it practically everywhere, from dollar stores to pharmacies. I stock up whenever the local Dollar Tree has it in stock so I never run out.

2. Bubbles

Bubbles are easy and incredibly inexpensive. You can buy them or make your own solution, as well as creating your own wands to make larger bubbles.

My daughter Willow will play with bubbles as long as she has bubbles to make! Check out this article for some great how-tos:

3. Face painting

With a face/body paint kit, you can let the kids decorate each others faces, or you can make awesome designs for them. Fun for summer and birthday parties, they are also great for costume parties and Halloween costumes.

Willow and I had our faces painted at the circus several months ago and we LOVED it! We got a great kit from #iMustech that is water-based. It features 12 colors which can be combined to make more colors to create countless looks. Willow is excited to try lots of  looks including a butterfly and tiger stripes. I'm happy that it is a water-based product which will wash off and not irritate sensitive skin. You can check it out here : https://www.amazon.com/iMustech-Water-based-Moisture-Painting-Makeup/dp/B071VMR7Z2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1499831893&sr=8-1&keywords=art+paint

4. Reading

With a book, comic or magazine, you can enter a world limited only by your imagination. There are so many genres and types of media, that everyone can find something they enjoy.

Not only can books alleviate boredom, but they also increase vocabulary and comprehension. This translates to better school performance.

If your child struggles to read, try audio books. You can check them out for free at your local library as well as find e-books online from multiple sources.
